[Video] How to make traditional Dutch pancakes

In the Netherlands, as in many countries, it’s typical to have a day of enjoying food at Easter! So, get ready for a sizeable brunch or lunch - or a massive Easter dinner, for that matter. Why not eat some Dutch food? Your favourite pannenkoekenbakker is probably closed for now, so why not try making your own?

Traditional Dutch pancakes for Easter Sunday, anyone?

If you’re in the mood for something irresistible for brunch, then kick off Easter Sunday with some traditional Dutch pancakes. After all, eggs are synonymous with this time of year, so it’s a great idea to make something traditionally Dutch in which they are the main ingredient.

Eggs have been the main symbol for this time of year for centuries. They were banned during the 40 days of Lent in the Christian calendar. That’s why Shrove Tuesday - 40 days before Easter Sunday - is known as Pancake Day in many countries. Even before Christianity, eggs were decorated in spring as a symbol of fertility and rebirth.

So, enjoy the video, which walks you through the best way to make Dutch pancakes. It even goes into detail about how the Dutch like to serve their pancakes with syrup and powdered sugar. Delicious!

What's your favourite traditional Dutch food? Perhaps you know some regional specialities?
