It was just a few days ago that Storm Poly wreaked havoc across much of the Netherlands, but with the weekend fast approaching, many will perhaps be happy to hear that temperatures are on the rise again, with warm and sunny weather expected across the country throughout the weekend. 

Friday marks the start of a hot weekend for the Netherlands 

July so far certainly hasn’t brought much of the summer weather that most would expect from the month, but that’s all set to change. Friday, July 7 will mark the first day of warmer weather, with temperatures reaching highs of between 24 and 30 degrees on Friday afternoon. Those in the big cities - namely Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague and Rotterdam - should expect temperatures of around 28 degrees. 

The higher temperatures will be accompanied by plenty of sunshine; forecasts are predicting a UV index of at least, meaning that unprotected skin can burn after just 15 to 30 minutes in the sun.

Tropical temperatures likely to make way for thunderstorms

The good news? The warm weather is set to continue into the weekend, with July 8 bringing hotter (but likely also cloudier) weather to much of the Netherlands. According to Weeronline, Saturday could be the warmest day of the year so far, with temperatures ranging from 28 degrees along the coast to 34 degrees in Limburg.

While temperatures can reach as high as 29 degrees in Maastricht, Arnhem, Den Bosch and Eindhoven on Sunday, beware; cloud cover and the chance of rain will increase over the course of the day, with thunderstorms on the cards for Sunday evening.
