The Netherlands sees longest period without sunshine in 31 years
In the lead-up to Christmas, the Netherlands has experienced 10 gloomy days in a row. With another sunless day coming our way on Thursday, it will be the longest period the country has seen without sunshine since 1993.
Gloomy weather falls over the Netherlands
As each day ticks by, people in the Netherlands keep hoping for a ray of sunshine to bring some light to the dark winter days. Alas, the Dutch weather continues to disappoint.
According to Weeronline, December 9 kicked off a days-long period without the sun warming up our balconies. With little to no sunshine forecast for Thursday as well, this bout will be the longest number of days without sun in 31 years. The last time the country went this long without a peep from the sun was in 1993 with 10 sunless days. However, this is a smidge better than the record of 14 days without sunlight experienced in the Netherlands in 1959.
Sunshine to reappear in the Netherlands from Friday
Dutch residents can thank their lucky stars as the rays of sunlight are finally expected to shine through on Friday. While the day might start with a rain shower and a cloud-filled sky, the sun will peep through occasionally throughout the day.
The weekend weather will see a similar pattern, with alternating periods of cloudy skies, rain and sunshine. Strong winds will also brush over the Netherlands making it feel chillier than the predicted temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees celsius.
