The international bulb-growing season kicks off as the exclusive and extraordinary specimens - as seen in the world-famous Keukenhof garden - go on sale at the Flower Bulb Market!

Come and shop for bulbs directly from the growers at De Tulperij

The opening of the flower bulb selling season is a big deal to the Dutch! While you can place your orders online already, the bulbs are still in the ground until opening weekend. While bulb shopping may not have the wow factor of the flower parades such as the world famous Zundert Flower Parade, for gardeners it's much more important.

If you want your garden or balcony to dazzle like the Keukenhof does, you need to get planting in October and November. At the National Flower Bulb Market, bulbs can be bought straight from the cultivator at the peak moment for planting.

There is also an educational aspect to the market: specialists will be there to explain how bulbs can be grown most successfully at home. You can gain expert tips from local gardeners to grow the most successful flower crop. Renowned professionals who also supply the Keukenhof with their blooms will be offering a large selection of spring bulbs, along with many rare kinds that you won't find at the tourist markets.

De Tulperij

2024 is the first year that the National Flower Market will be held at De Tulperij. This tulip-selling farm also has an amazing tulip show garden in the springtime, and workshops throughout the flower season, such as flower arrangement, making macramé plant-pot hangers and vase painting.

While the tulips won't bloom until spring, the National Flower Bulb Market does coincide with the tail-end of the dahlia season, so you can see their amazing blooms, and even pick some to take home!

Getting to the National Flower Bulb Market

Voorhout is in the centre of the famous Bollenstreek, the long strip of the Netherlands that is primarily focused on bulb planting, and is a riot of colour at different times of the year.

If you are arriving by public transport, you are better off getting the train to Sassenheim rather than Voorhout, as buses from Sassenheim pass near De Tulperij much more regularly. You can take either bus 361 or bus 50 and get off at Engelenbuurt Lisse, which is about a 15-minute walk from De Tulperij. For those who prefer driving, there is plenty of on-site parking.

You can find out more about De Tulperij and the flowers it sells on the De Tulperij website.
