Team Applied Spatial Research is looking for an enthusiastic colleague to enforce the software development capacity in the team. In this position you will participate in research projects with a strong ICT component. You will work together with other software developers in our team and other teams. You will also collaborate with researchers from other organisations, national and international. Supporting our broad and interdisciplinary research, you will work on a diversity of topics in the domains nature, agriculture and the living environment.

Your tasks will cover all aspects of software engineering, focussing on backend and database development. Our ICT work is diverse, and projects and development teams are usually small or medium size. This means we expect you to be flexible, able to manage more than one project at the same time and able and willing to master more than just one development environment. You will have the chance to join state-of-art projects, following the newest developments in software engineering, like big data technologies, machine learning, federated computingr etc.

You will work with within the team Applied Spatial Research. This is a very diverse group: Geodesk, landscape architects, data quality expertise centre, software developers, cartographers and spatial data/ information researchers. But what binds us is that we all work on enhancing the symbiosis between the natural environment and humanity through applied spatial research. Through co-creation and creative design, we support stakeholders in improving decision making by integrating perspectives and different types of knowledge. We develop and advance methods and techniques for analysis, synthesis, valuation, and visualisation of spatial knowledge. The fitness for use principle, making sure that the solution is usable, is always central.

Requirements:

Your qualities

  • university of applied science degree, BSc/MSc degree in informatics or comparable;
  • at least 1 – 3 years working experience in software development (Java, Python);
  • preferably experienced in handling of (large) spatial datasets;
  • experience with using and managing relational database systems and SQL scripting; (Oracle and Postgres);
  • experience and/or interest in one or more of the following is a pre: (open source) GIS, Mobile app data management, (Spatial) statistics, OGC standards (WMS, WFS, WCS) for geospatial data exchange , AI and machine/deep learning, distributed/cloud computing, Docker/Kubernetes, Linux;
  • Experience with Agile development, DevOps concepts and CI/CD
  • proficiency in English and Dutch;
  • team player but also able to work independently and take responsibility;
  • able to perform in a challenging and dynamic environment.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 3.234,- and € 6.008,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 10-11).

Additionally, a contract for 32 hours can be discussed. As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended - if possible within (company) organizational circumstances - on good performance.
