Assistant or Associate Professor, in the field of atmospheric dynamics and/or meteorology

Research / Academic
Wageningen

The Meteorology and Air Quality group at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate professor position in the field of meteorology and atmospheric physics. We seek a researcher whose expertise complements and expands our group's strengths, particularly in large-scale atmospheric or climate dynamics. We welcome applicants employing any methodological approach, numerical modeling, or theoretical analysis. Candidates with research interests spanning local to global scales and aligning with our current meteorological research themes will be valued. Beyond research excellence, we are looking for candidates with strong potential for innovation, passion for education and leadership and who would like to bring their own expertise and background to the group.

The education part of the position also involves teaching at BSc and MSc level and advising of students, which amounts to approximately 40% of the time. Examples courses that we teach are Geophysical fluid dynamics, Atmospheric Dynamics, Boundary-layer Meteorology and Atmospheric Modelling. On our website you find all courses, and they are clearly connected with our research. Interesting to note here is the recognition of the excellent education offered in Wageningen. Our university was chosen as the best institution for higher education in the Netherlands for the 20th time in a row in 2024. Besides that, we are ranked as university as number 1 worldwide in the fields of agriculture, ecology and environment, as well as excellent rankings in other fields.

Furthermore, an important aspect of the job is the acquisition of research projects, both at national and international level, to fund new PhD and postdoc positions. More information on our research and education activities can be found at the page of our group.

This position is part of the Academic Career Framework (ACF) at Wageningen University & Research, which has replaced the traditional Tenure Track. This new career framework for all academic staff at Wageningen University starts on 9 March 2025. One of the 3 career paths is the Professor Career Path. The aim of this ACF is to achieve a new balance in recognising and valuing academics where both team collaboration and the unique talent of individual scientists are seen, by creating more differentiation in career paths, putting the emphasis on the quality of work and less on quantitative results, doing justice to the individual qualities and ambitions of academics as much as to team performance, promoting all aspects of open science and encouraging high-quality leadership in the academy.
