The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued a Code Yellow weather warning for Wednesday across the entire of the country as Storm Jocelyn moves closer towards the Netherlands. Code Yellow warnings were also in place in the northern and western Dutch provinces since Tuesday evening. 

Two named storms pass by the Netherlands in less than one week

Just days after the last European windstorm Isha battered the Netherlands with strong winds overnight between Sunday and Monday, the Netherlands is once again set to see some dramatic weather, especially on Wednesday. 

While winds started to rise on Tuesday night, with the KNMI passing yellow weather warnings for just the most northern and western Dutch provinces, the KNMI has saved nationwide warnings for Wednesday, with the majority of these having been in place since the early hours. 

Heavy wind gusts of 80 to 90 kilometres per hour to be expected

The KNMI warned that people in the Netherlands should expect to face heavy wind gusts of 80 to 90 kilometres per hour. Though the storm is not expected to bring strong risks of flooding and heavy rainfall, the weather agency has warned that people could face dangerous situations such as falling trees or flying objects. 

In the case of strong winds, the KNMI recommends that people follow the agency’s latest weather warnings and plan accordingly for driving or using public transportation. The agency also recommends that people living in houses and apartments should secure loose items such as garden furniture. People heading out on the road should check the Rijkswaterstaat for traffic updates and slow down on busy roads.
