Say goodbye to mild temperatures, as stormier weather is on the way

After a fairly dismal summer, so far, autumn in the Netherlands has been fairly mild and sunny, bringing several days of sunshine and double-digit temperatures. Don’t get too used to it though, as this week the country is set to see temperatures drop as stormier weather arrives.

Get ready to enjoy the final day of mild temperatures

Wednesday should be the final day of decent autumn weather, with mild temperatures of around 19 degrees in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and The Hague - but there is set to be quite a lot of rain and fairly heavy winds.

Coastal areas such as Scheveningen can look forward to winds of up to 80 kilometres per hour, and the Dutch Weather Institute (KNMI) has issued a code yellow weather warning for heavy winds. This is it: autumn has officially arrived in the Netherlands, so you can pack away your sunglasses and dig out your waterproofs.

Rain showers and heavy winds on the way to the Netherlands

While Wednesday is still looking decent by October standards, Thursday marks a real shift in weather, bringing an end to the warmer temperatures and ushering in the second half of the month with rain showers and heavy winds.

Temperatures will range from around 13 degrees in Groningen to 15 degrees in Maastricht on Thursday, while Friday will see them drop across the country to between 10 and 13 degrees. Rain is also on the cards, and while the weekend is currently looking dry with possibly even a little bit of sunshine, next week the chance of rain once again increases as temperatures fall even further.
