Amazon is finally expanding its services in the Netherlands
Amazon has been available in the Netherlands since 2014, but only as a vendor for e-books. Now, the giant multinational is set to expand, finally offering the full Amazon experience currently enjoyed by many other countries around the world.
Amazon to offer physical products in the Netherlands
Since 2014, all that Amazon.nl offered was e-books but this year, that all changes. From this week, both domestic and international companies can register to offer products. This year, you will be able to order millions of products through Amazon.nl.
Rumours circulated last year that the online sales giant wanted to expand its pre-existing site in the Netherlands and offer consumers a wide range of products. In order to achieve this, Amazon notified Dutch traders of their decision to expand, so they could start preparing to make their wares available through the site. More than half of Amazon’s worldwide sales are handled through third-party partners.
Amazon in the Netherlands
Amazon started in the Netherlands in 2013 with a Development Centre in The Hague, perhaps unsurprising given the country’s status as a tax haven. Then in 2018, Amazon opened its first office in Amsterdam. However, as of right now, there is no distribution centre in the Netherlands. Online shoppers living in the Netherlands have either had to order products via the German website or use alternatives such as bol.com.
