New Year’s lottery jackpot of 30 million euros won by two Dutch residents

New Year’s lottery jackpot of 30 million euros won by two Dutch residents

The traditional New Year’s Eve lottery in the Netherlands has seen two lucky participants win the jackpot of 30 million euros. According to the Staatsloterij (Dutch state lottery), the two winners will share the grand prize, each receiving 15 million euros tax-free.

Two winners to split Dutch lottery prize

The winning ticket with number DR 16223 was sold as two half tickets and ended up being worth 30 million euros. One of the winners, from the municipality of Bladel, bought their half-ticket online and has already claimed their prize.

Another winner got their ticket at CIGO Gelukszaak Bekker in Heemskerk and has yet to appear to claim their half of the winnings. The Staatsloterij is urging the Heemskerk winner to come forward. While the search continues, the unknown winner still has a while to claim their jackpot, with the deadline set for January 1, 2026.

Most successful New Year’s Eve lottery in the Netherlands

As part of the New Year’s traditions, many people in the Netherlands feast on oliebollen, listen to the top 2.000 and buy lottery tickets. This year’s New Year’s Eve lottery was the most successful one yet, setting a new sales record.

In total, 7,6 million tickets were sold throughout the day. Between 2pm and 3pm on New Year’s Eve tickets were sold at a rate of 40 per second. Out of all this two lucky participants will see their bank accounts topped with millions of euros.

“What a fantastic end to 2024 for these winners. This year, we’ve had the pleasure of making dozens of people millionaires, but distributing 15 euros million twice is truly extraordinary,” said Bjorn Rosner, winner advisor at Nederlandse Loterij, which operates Staatsloterij. The winners will also receive comprehensive support including guidance from a financial advisor.
