The hottest day of the year so far has arrived in the Netherlands, with temperatures rising above 30 degrees celsius on Monday, August 12. A code yellow weather warning has even been issued for the southeast as 35-degree weather is set to arrive. 

Code Yellow heat warning for parts of the Netherlands on Monday

The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued a code yellow weather warning for very hot and humid conditions in the southern provinces of Zeeland, North Brabant and Limburg. From 1pm to 8pm on August 12, people are urged to avoid overheating and dehydration, especially those with vulnerable health conditions, by not overly exerting themselves, seeking shade and drinking enough water. 

Dutch cities such as Maastricht, Vlissingen, Breda and Eindhoven will experience the hottest temperatures, with the mercury set to rise to 35 degrees. Across the rest of the Netherlands, the temperature could rise to over 32 degrees celsius, with little to no cloud coverage forecast. 

Tropical weather continues into Tuesday

According to Weeronline, the hot and stuffy weather will continue through Monday night and temperatures are not likely to drop below 20 degrees. Going into Tuesday, highs of up to 33 degrees can be expected. 

As the day goes on, the likelihood of heavy thunderstorms will increase, with inland cities having the highest chance of heavy rain and even hail. From Wednesday, typical Dutch weather will return with clouds, rain and some sunshine peeking through.
