Lecturer Health and Society

The lecturer position will mainly contribute to the HSO teaching portfolio. We are looking for someone who can support education (courses and thesis and internship supervision). The area of teaching includes social determinants of health, health promotion, the healthy living environment and global one health. You will also act as the education coordinator for the group.

Your duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting HSO staff members in the coordination and teaching of the HSO education curriculum
  • Coordination of HSO Thesis (Bachelor and Master) and Internships (Master)
  • Answering education-related questions of students and staff
  • Keeping up-to-date with all education organizational issues at WUR and supporting the teaching staff of HSO to implement them (Quality Control)
  • Coordinate with the other education coordinators of the section SPS: eg make sure thesis and internship guidelines are up to date, inform students about rules and regulations on Brightspace
  • Coordinate meetings of the HSO Education Committee and give education updates during the HSO Group Meetings


You will work with a nice group of researchers and teachers known as the Health & Society Group. You will be based in the Leeuwenborch Building on the Wageningen University & Research campus.

Requirements:

You are proactive and take initiative in organizing. You are easy approachable for students.
You also possess:

  • A MSc degree in Health and Society, Public Health or Health Promotion;
  • Teaching experience at academic level (having a teaching qualification is a plus);
  • Good organization, communication and coordination skills;
  • An enthusiasm to help out students and staff with education related questions;
  • Dutch language skills.


In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position it is about language level C1. If you do not yet have this level, we will of course help you and you can go to our language center Wageningen in'to Language

Health and Society
We, in the Health and Society Group, see ourselves as embedded in widening circles of engagement with the major challenges facing human and planetary health today. Whether we are studying the domain of people, places, policies, or the planet more broadly, we engage with these domains with the aim to improve health and society.

Our research includes studies on the role that the local environment plays in shaping lifestyle and health practices, the role that friends, family or places play in influencing health-related decisions, and the effects that polices play on population and planetary health. We use science and theory to guide us in our approach, and participatory practices to foster a healthier world.

We aim

  • to advance knowledge on the social determinants of health and how to intervene on those determinants using a social sciences lens
  • to educate, train, and equip students at all levels in the theories, tools, and methods required to improve population and planetary health
  • to conduct internationally-recognized health sciences research with social impact.


The Health and Society Group is part of the WUR-Centre for Space Place and Society (CSPS) that aims to advance creative, critical, and engaging scholarship within and beyond the social sciences with particular focus on earthly, socio-spatial and environmental justice and translate knowledge into practical action in pursuit of a more just and equitable world.

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 3.226 and € 5.090 for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10). This is a temporary position for 1 year, for 0.6 fte.
