Within FSE, the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences (DACS) and its Institute of Data Science (IDS) have a growing portfolio of research projects covering applications of data science, machine learning, and knowledge representation in domains such as bioinformatics, food, agriculture and biodiversity. Their approach is highly interdisciplinary bringing together diverse academic disciplines with an emphasis on data management and the development of open source tools or platforms. In order to respond to the growth in the number of grant applications (pre-award phase) and awarded research projects (post-award phase), we have a vacancy for an enthusiastic project manager experienced in supporting research projects.

Job description
In your role as a research project manager you will support scientific projects from start to finish. This includes preparing and applying for grants, starting up projects, reporting progress, and managing amendment procedures. You will ensure the efficient and correct handling of national and international grant processes. You are the linking pin in all processes.

You will be embedded at the FSE Faculty Office, more specifically at the Research Support Office (RSO) while you will also work on location at DACS/IDS. The RSO consists of experienced professionals who contribute to pre and post award phases of research projects, while also advising on the research policy of FSE as a whole. The majority of your tasks will be performed within DACS/IDS while you will also partially support the RSO team with pre and post award activities for other FSE departments.

What will you do:

  • Identify competitive (Horizon Europe /NWO) calls relevant for researchers and promote project proposals in collaboration with the Faculty funding advisor.
  • Assist principal investigators and their team members with the preparation of research proposals, which includes:
  • Assuring compliance with the call funding policies and regulations
  • Preparing specific instructions for how to focus/structure the proposal
  • Helping to revise drafts of the proposal and provide feedback (format, focus, language, etc.)
  • Helping to prepare the proposal budget, both for UM as for the project consortium as a whole (when applicable)
  • Handle the formal registration and submission of the proposals in any relevant format.
  • Guide the grant related contract process (such as Grant Agreements, Consortium and Data Agreements) and liaise with legal affairs and privacy officers.
  • Monitor project progress against agreed milestones and deliverables, and signal any issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist in regular financial reporting and discuss financial data with faculty administrative support.
  • Maintain external contacts with grant providers and international collaboration partners.
  • You will periodically liaise with RSO team members to align pre- and post award activities.


Requirements
We are looking for someone who can hold their own in a complex, dynamic environment. You enjoy working on a variety of projects and assignments and are able to efficiently manage your work.

  • Educational Background: A MSc degree (minimum) or PhD degree (preferred) in Computer Science, Engineering, Life Sciences or related fields.
  • Exerience with Subsidies/Grants You have at least 2 years’ experience in managing European projects, focusing especially on the Horizon Europe programme. Experience in the coordination of multi partner projects will be appreciated.
  • Administrative Skills: You are familiar with financial and legal administration related to these projects.
  • Funding Landscape Knowledge: Knowledge of the broad funding landscape in the scientific domain (regional, national, and European) is preferred.
  • Project Management Skills: Time management, strong organizational skills, able to prioritize.
  • Language Proficiency: You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and in English.


What we offer
As Project manager
at Faculty of Science & Engineering, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 10 according to UFO profile Project Leader, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €3345,00 and €5278,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 1,0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
