The Times Higher Education (THE) has just released its yearly assessment of the world's best universities - and the Netherlands has done very well!

About the World University Rankings

The World University Rankings is an annual report which assesses the world's top universities. 

It has been running since 2004 and is one of the most thorough and globally respected rating systems for universities. Its evaluations are based on various criteria related to teaching, research, innovation and international outlook.

This year the California Institute of Technology was rated best in the world, closely followed by the University of Oxford and Harvard University.

Dutch Universities perform well

Leiden University was the best-performing Dutch institution, ranked 67th worldwide. Another 11 Dutch universities made it into the top 200 list, making the Netherlands the world's third "knowledge country." 

This means that, on a global scale, only the USA and UK boast more top-performing universities. This further confirms the findings of other rankings, which have repeatedly recognised the Netherlands' educational prowess.

Delft University of Technology came in at number 69, while Erasmus University Rotterdam and the respective universities of Wageningen, Utrecht, Amsterdam, Groningen and Maastricht were all placed in the top 100.
