Coaches in The Hague to encourage residents to exercise more
In a move that should help people stick to the ever popular New Year's resolution to exercise more, The Hague has announced that it will hire 19 neighbourhood sport coaches to encourage residents to play more sports.
Eleven of these new coaches will focus on promoting street sports in particular, since they are becoming increasingly popular among young people. Street sports range from roller hockey to street soccer, basketball, urban cricket, and dodge ball.
Meanwhile, five coaches will develop programmes for neighbourhood community centres, and the remaining three coaches will work in the districts of Centrum and Laak, which currently offer to residents little in terms of sports, with a special focus on sport and health.
The budget for the neighbourhood sport coaches will be financed by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and the Municipality of The Hague.
