The Netherlands scores low in innovation and R&D
The Netherlands scores low in start-ups, high-growth business and investment for R&D.
According to Statistics Netherlands, the number of "technological innovative" businesses has remain stable at 35% since 2006.
Ron Boschma, professor of regional economics at Utrecht University, highlights the fact that at the moment, funding is mainly absorbed by established corporations such as KLM and Philips.
Note that in Europe, only Poland and Spain scored lower.
