Temporary Teaching position in Modern Philosophy (0.35-0.6 FTE)

The Faculty of Philosophy is offering a temporary teaching position. In particular, we are offering



- For candidates with expertise in modern philosophy: a 0,35 or 0,4 teaching position for academic year 2025/2026, with the possibility of a one-year extension.

- For candidates with expertise in modern philosophy as well as theoretical philosophy: a 0,35 or 0,4 teaching position for academic year 2025/2026, with the possibility of a 0,6 appointment in academic year 2026/2027.



Successful candidates will be expected to teach at both BA and MA level, and to co-teach the Minor programme offered by the faculty. Tasks include lecturing, seminar teaching, and thesis supervision. It is important that candidates can appeal to a broad range of philosophy students.

The Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Groningen is a vibrant, international community of excellent researchers and lecturers. The Faculty has three departments: History of Philosophy, Theoretical Philosophy, and Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy.

Requirements:

- Demonstrable exerptise in the relevant field(s).

- A strong teaching record, appropriate to career stage, or strong affinity with teaching.

- Excellent command of written and spoken English; knowledge of Dutch is highly preferable but not strictly required.

- Intellectual drive, enthusiasm and open-mindedness.

- A PhD in philosophy.

Salary Benefits:

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:



- A salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 3,378 to a maximum of € 5,331 gross (salary scale 10 - job profile teacher/docent) for a full-time position

- Excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. A fiscal facility pertaining to extraterritorial costs (the 30% facility) may be applicable if the rules of Dutch tax law permit this.

- A fixed-term (non tenure-track) position for the period of maximally two years.
