ProRail has announced that due to planned work being carried out on tracks and overhead lines, no trains will run between stations in Rotterdam and The Hague from October 22 until November 3.

Train disruptions between Rotterdam and The Hague in October

Construction work on the tracks between the main stations in Rotterdam and The Hague begins on October 22, resulting in no trains running between Rotterdam Centraal and Delft Campus Station until November 1. The connections between Rotterdam, Schiedam and The Hague Hollands Spoor (HS) will also be affected from November 2 until November 3.

According to ProRail, passengers should expect to add around 20 to 27 minutes of additional travel time to their journeys. Travellers commuting between The Hague Centraal and Rotterdam Centraal can detour via the train to Gouda. Buses will also be made available for passengers travelling on the Rotterdam-Delft and Delft-The Hague HS lines.

The Metro line E between The Hague and Rotterdam can also be used, however, the railway organisation does not suggest using the line if possible as it is very busy and could cause further delays, especially during rush hour.

ProRail making improvements to tracks around Rotterdam

The planned work on the tracks is part of ProRail’s project to increase train capacity and efficiency for the increasing number of rail passengers in the Netherlands. Following the works, more and longer trains will be able to run between the stations in the future.

Included in the construction is the installation of new overhead lines, train protection, signals, switches, cables and pipes. This will allow two additional Sprinters to run between Rotterdam and The Hague from December 15.
