NS to launch new high-speed train service from Amsterdam to Brussels

Dutch railway company NS has started selling tickets for a new train connection from Amsterdam to Brussels. The high-speed service launching on December 15, 2024 will shave 45 minutes off the total journey time.

Faster train for Amsterdam-Brussels route

In a joint effort, NS and Belgian railway operator NMBS are launching a new train service on the Amsterdam-Brussels route to improve the public transport services between the countries every day. According to NS, the organisations plan to double the number of train trips from 16 to 32 per day.

The train will be called the EuroCity Direct and will travel between the Amsterdam Zuid and Brussels Zuid-Midi stations from 6am every day. It will also stop at Schiphol Airport and the central train stations in Rotterdam and Antwerp. With an estimated journey time of just over two hours, the faster connection will save travellers 45 minutes.

Additional Rotterdam-Brussels connection to launch

Not only will travellers to Belgium get a faster connection from Amsterdam, but a new train route from Rotterdam to Brussels Zuid-Midi will be launched simultaneously and operated by NMBS. Named the EuroCity, the connection will run 16 times a day from 7am stopping in Breda, Noorderkempen, Antwerp Central, Antwerp Berchem, Mechelen, Brussels Airport-Zaventem, Brussels North and Brussels Central.

Both the Amsterdam-Brussels and Rotterdam-Brussels routes are being tested from October until the launch in December. Tickets for the fast train to Brussels have been available since October 15 and can be booked via NS International. A single ticket to Brussels from Amsterdam starts at 25 euros, and from Rotterdam at 13,10 euros.
