About the play Off Grid
English Theatre Utrecht is back with its sixth production, and second original play after Dressed for Court. In Off Grid, a bittersweet sci-fi comedy directed by artistic director, Alexandra Elroy, 15 international performers bring you to a futuristic world where modern topics such as climate change and clash of generations feature.
Consider, for a moment, our world as it is today. Does it frighten you? Give you a sense of discomfort? All signs point to a time of change and uncertainty. More than a few of you woke up this morning, taking a deep breath in, and wondering if it would be the last truly clear breath of morning air you’d inhale.
The play features themes of environmentalism, isolation, cults, and a clash of ideals. In a near future enveloped in thick smog, the action kicks off when tech pioneer and solar power entrepreneur Jones finds out his earlier business partner and current leader of a small island community, Hildegard, has died, and left the island leaderless. Is now the time to reflect on his relationship with the cult leader, or the perfect opportunity to make a shrewd business move?
Show times for the play are:
- February 17-18 at Theater Kikker, Utrecht
- February 24 at Badhuistheater in Amsterdam
