Travellers heading to Schiphol will need to plan their journey ahead of time over the next month as work on the Schiphol tunnel will impact the number and frequency of trains heading to the Netherlands’ biggest airport. 

Half of Schiphol platforms will be unused from January 13 to February 4

Half of the platforms and tracks running through Schiphol Airport will not be able to be used by trains and passengers between January 13 and February 4. NS has urged passengers to check their travel planner in the NS app before embarking on their journey to the airport, as diversions may need to be made via stations such as Utrecht or Haarlem.

The public transport provider has also strongly advised passengers to travel outside of rush hours where possible. This is because since fewer trains are running to and from the airport, they will likely be much more crowded onboard.

Train disruption expected in several parts of Amsterdam over the coming weeks

Schiphol’s trains are not the only train services to be disrupted in the coming weeks. No trains will run between Schiphol and Amsterdam Sloterdijk and Schiphol and Amsterdam Central Station during the weekends of January 20 to 22 and February 3 to 5, and no trains will run between Zaandam and Amsterdam Sloterdijk on February 4. 

On these routes, travellers are advised to use the metro instead, apart from the route between Zaandam and Amsterdam Sloterdijk, where NS will provide rail-replacement buses. The current works are taking place as part of construction work to prepare Schiphol’s station for the future.
