Construction on Amsterdam's new bike parking facility finally complete
2023 is set to bring about a substantial change at Amsterdam Centraal, as the municipality has announced that two large bicycle parking facilities will be opening at the station before the spring.
The first to open its doors to locals, tourists and commuters is located on Stationsplein, and has been the reason for a significant amount of building work and disruption to traffic in areas around the station since construction started in 2019. In all, the project has cost the municipality 60 million euros.
Check out the seriously cool time-lapse video below to see just how much work has gone into the project:
Underground parking for 7.000 bikes to open January 28
The facility at Stationsplein has space for 7.000 bikes, making it the largest bicycle parking facility in Amsterdam. It’ll be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the first 24 hours of parking will be completely free!
Stationsplein’s brand new bike parking will be officially opened by State Secretary for Infrastructure and Water Management, Vivianne Heijnen, on Wednesday, January 25, before opening to the public on January 28.
