This September 11, experience the stunning Flower Parade in the Dutch town of Lichtenvoorde where over four million dahlia flowers are presented in lovely, intricate designs.

Flowers all year round

The Netherlands is known for it’s beautiful tulip season in April and May, especially at Keukenhof gardens, but there are many spectacular flowers that can be seen outside of the tulip season. In Lichtenvoorde, a Dutch town an hour and a half out of Amsterdam, they host Flower Parade Lichtenvoorde (Bloemencorso Lichtenvoorde), a lovely flower parade in September to commemorate the start of the festival. There will be many floats and displays of flowers in wonderful designs.

The parade has been going on since 1929, taking place annually on the second Sunday in September. Around a thousand volunteers help to show this impressive spectacle. The parade is around 2.5 km long, and it starts at 2pm and goes as follows:

  • Gert Reindersstraat (exhibition grounds)
  • Varsseveldseweg (stands A & B)
  • Esstraat
  • Richterslaan (stand C)
  • Lievelderweg
  • Aaltenseweg
  • De Rode van Heeckerenstraat
  • Bronckhorststraat
  • Hendrik Leemreizestraat (exhibition grounds)
