As of February 2, travellers from very high-risk areas will no longer be required to quarantine upon arrival in the Netherlands if they have received their booster shot, the Dutch government has announced. 

No more quarantine for travellers who receive booster shot

As is outlined on the Dutch government’s website, travellers arriving in the Netherlands from designated very high-risk areas (with or without a variant of concern) are required to quarantine upon arrival, regardless of their vaccination status. This rule applies to a number of countries around the world, including the United Kingdom, the United States, and South Africa. 

While the government hasn’t announced any changes to the list of countries considered very high-risk, a recent change to the country’s quarantine rules means that, as of February 2, 2022, all travellers from these countries - whether they be Dutch citizens, Dutch residents, or tourists - will be exempt from quarantine if they have received their booster shot at least seven days prior to departure.

Various entry restrictions still in place in the Netherlands

Those who qualify for the exemption will be required to fill out a quarantine declaration form and must present proof of their vaccination status before travelling. Travellers who are not boosted will still be required to quarantine upon arrival, unless they fall under one of the other exemptions outlined by the Dutch government. 

In addition to the quarantine mandate, a number of non-EU countries continue to fall under the EU entry ban, which severely restricts travel between EU member states and countries outside of the bloc that are categorised as having a high COVID-19 risk. The EU entry ban does not apply to travellers who are fully vaccinated against COVID,19, or EU residents and nationals.
