From Thursday, July 8, fully vaccinated people will no longer be asked to go into quarantine after coming into contact with someone infected with coronavirus. 

Fully vaccinated? Don't worry about self-isolating

Up until now, everyone in the Netherlands - regardless of vaccination status - has been urgently asked to quarantine after returning from a trip to a (high) risk area or after being in close contact with someone who has coronavirus. But last month, the Dutch government announced it was looking into options for relaxing the self-isolation rules for people who are (fully) vaccinated. 

From Thursday, people who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will no longer be expected to self-isolate for at least five days after being in contact with someone who has coronavirus. According to a spokesperson from the GGD, the relaxation of the guidance will only apply to people who have been fully vaccinated for at least 14 days, ensuring they have built up sufficient protection for the virus.

The relaxation doesn’t only apply to those who are fully vaccinated. Anyone who has recovered from a COVID-19 infection within the previous six months will also not be required to self-isolate. Neither will people who have recovered from coronavirus and have received only one jab. 

The GGD will continue to carry out source and contact tracing, and anyone who has the CoronaMelder app on their phone will receive a notification if they have come into close contact with someone with coronavirus. Anyone who isn’t fully vaccinated will still be expected to self-isolate for at least five days, after which they can get tested for COVID-19.
