Musical celebrating life of football legend Johan Cruijff announced
It has been announced that the AFAS Theatre in Leusden (near Amersfoort) has started production on a new musical that celebrates the life of Dutch football legend Johan Cruijff.
Johan Cruijff: The Musical
The theatre, which is set to open its doors in 2021, is working with director and scriptwriter Tom de Ket and theatre producer Wolter Lommerde to bring the vision to life. They plan on the show opening in September 2021.
The musical, named "14 the Musical" after Cruijff’s number, is set to contain music of all genres, including hip-hop and opera. It will also make use of a combination of projections and set pieces to bring the legend and his story to life.
While the cast members are yet to be announced, it has been revealed that, at the request of Cruijff Management, Cruijff’s character will not sing (much). Instead, he will be featured talking and, of course, playing football. It has also been noted that Cruijff’s wife, Danny Coster, will play a significant role in the production.
