The National Coordination Centre for Patient Distribution (LCPS) reported on Wednesday, July 8, that the number of patients in Dutch hospitals being treated for the coronavirus has dropped below 100.

The number of patients in the Netherlands being treated for the coronavirus in hospital has fallen from 103 to 94. This marks only the second time that the number of patients has dropped below 100 since early March. The average hospital now treats only two coronavirus patients.

Last Saturday, July 4, the number of coronavirus patients also dropped to 94, before rising again at the beginning of this week. This marked the first time in months that numbers dropped below 100. 

The number of patients in hospital nursing wards stood at 79 on Tuesday, July 7. This number has now dropped to 74, reports the LCPS. 

Fewer people in ICU

The LCPS also reports that there are currently 20 patients across the country being treated in intensive care for coronavirus. This number has decreased since Tuesday, July 7, when 24 patients were being treated in intensive care.

There are currently a total of 596 people in the Netherlands being treated in intensive care. Under normal conditions, there are around 1.500 intensive care beds available across the country. But during the coronavirus crisis, this number rose above 2.000.
