It’s all coming up roses for the Netherlands, first a win regarding its pension system on the Global Pension Index and now a spot in the Lonely Planet top 10 2020 destinations.

The Netherlands is the place to visit

Each year, Lonely Planet creates a list of the top 10 destinations to visit the following year. These places give you the most bang for your buck. This year, the Netherlands has made it to spot number seven on the Lonely Planet top 10 places to visit next year. Aruba, a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, made it to fourth place on this list.

Lonely Planet writes that the Netherlands is ready to celebrate in 2020, as the year not only marks 75 years since the end of the Second World War, it’s also a year in which the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the country, in Rotterdam to be precise. The travel guide advises visiting in the months of April and May so that you can experience King’s Day, Liberation Day and the Eurovision Song Contest.

Lonely Planet mentions visiting Amsterdam but also recommends exploring the country by bike to places beyond the cities like the Unesco World Heritage Site the Wadden Sea. The Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions (NBTC) is proud of the Netherlands’ place on the esteemed list.

According to NBTC general director Jos Vranken, “The fact that multiple locations are receiving attention is a step in the right direction. We are pleased to see travel brands such as Lonely Planet paying more and more attention to the sometimes less well-known or obvious places.”
