7 Dutch universities in top 100 of THE World University Rankings 2020
The World University Rankings 2020 is compiled by British Magazine Times Higher Education and looks at almost 1.400 universities across 92 countries, making it one of the largest and most diverse university rankings.
THE World University Rankings 2020
Every year, Time Higher Education assembles a ranking of universities worldwide. Institutions are assessed according to 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators, which cover the areas of teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income. As usual, universities from the USA and the United Kingdom dominated the top spots this year, with the University of Oxford taking first place.
The top five in the 2020 ranking are: the University of Oxford (UK), California Institute of Technology (USA), University of Cambridge (UK), Stanford University (USA) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA).
The best university in the Netherlands
This year, the Dutch universities have been shuffled around somewhat, with Delft University of Technology no longer taking the top spot as the best university in the Netherlands. In the 2020 ranking, that honour goes to Wageningen University & Research, which comes in 59th globally.
Last year, Delft University of Technology came in at 58th place, one spot above Wageningen which was in 59th place. This year however, the Delft university has dropped considerably in the ranking, to 67th place. The university’s scores fell in all areas apart from research and international outlook. In contrast, Wageningen University’s scores climbed in all areas apart from citations, where its score decreased slightly.
