In my experience, the best way for an expat to fully experience the host country, become a part of the community, and potentially integrate - is to speak the language. Speaking the Dutch language as an expat might seem like a luxury in a place where everyone speaks the English language, like the city of Amsterdam. Being an expat myself who is fluent in the Dutch language and has a professional background in linguistics and Dutch language teaching, the advantages of speaking the language became obvious to me as soon as I moved to the Netherlands. For this very reason, I started Dutch language school TaalBoost.nl in Amsterdam three years ago. Together with an amazing team of teachers, TaalBoost has so far aided hundreds of internationals to improve their Dutch language skills in a functional and practical way, deepen their knowledge on the Dutch culture and traditions, as well as feel more a part and contribute to a loving and caring community of Amsterdam.
