Zuiderpark: a national monument
Zuiderpark, the famous "South Park" of The Hague, is to become a national monument.
The request was made by The Hague Municipal Council in order to preserve its cultural and historical qualities, a proposal immediately accepted by the Dutch government.
Deputy Mayor Rabin Baldewsingh, the Alderman for Monuments and Historical Sites, stated: "Zuiderpark is a beautiful spot in the middle of the city. I think it is fantastic that we are now protecting this location which is so vital to the city’s image so that the future generations can continue to enjoy it."
Zuiderpark dates back to 1908. Its construction began in 1923 and lasted for more than 13 years.
