Martin Garrix becomes first Dutch artist with one billion streams
Martin Garrix - who in 2020 secured a spot as one of the world’s best DJs - has become the first artist from the Netherlands to ever reach one billion streams on Spotify for one song.
One billion streams for In the Name of Love
The artist broke into the music industry in 2013 when he was just 17, DJing at events and festivals that he himself was too young to attend. Since then, he has released a number of tracks that went on to become global hits and has collaborated with several big-name artists, including Dua Lipa, David Guetta, and Macklemore.
But now, his 2016 track In the Name of Love - which the producer released with singer Bebe Rexha - has reached the milestone of one billion streams on Spotify. So far, only a little over a hundred songs have achieved this, and other artists featured on this exclusive list include Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Drake, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, and Ed Sheeran with Shape of You - the most-listened-to song ever with nearly 2,7 billion streams.
After hearing news of the achievement, Garrix - who was born in Amstelveen - took to Instagram to thank his fans for their support.
