Former boxing champion Mike Tyson opens Amsterdam coffeeshop
Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has visited his coffeeshop in the Dutch capital several months after opening the business earlier in 2023 The boxer said that he visited Amsterdam several times as a teenager and always wanted to start a cannabis business.
Marijuana has been unjustly labelled as a drug, says Tyson
Tyson visited the shop in Amsterdam on September 13, after it opened in March 2023. The boxer is passionate about his latest pursuit, telling De Telegraaf: “Marijuana has been unjustly labelled as a drug. It is demonised”. The boxer went on to tell newspaper AT5: “This is what I’ve always wanted. I’ve been here [in Amsterdam] on many occasions as a teenager, and I’ve always wanted to be part of the cannabis business”.
The coffeeshop is called Coffeeshop Tyson 2.0, and features a number of artworks depicting the boxer. “I've witnessed our community and international visitors' excitement since we opened just over four months ago,” the director of Coffeeshop Tyson 2.0 Eduard Kempel said in a press release.
Tyson says that he never smoked weed during his career
The boxer went on to clarify that he had never smoked weed during his professional boxing career. "I use it [weed] now also because of the injuries I have”, Tyson told De Telegraaf.
Hundreds of fans turned up at the coffeeshop to meet the boxing legend during his time in Amsterdam. The business, which is located on the Spuistraat, spans 111 square metres and features a glass bar and is proving a hit with visitors, scoring highly on Google reviews.
