Dom Tower in Utrecht visible again after five-year restoration

After five years of restoration, the Dom Tower in Utrecht has finally been completely revealed. The city will celebrate the final removal of scaffolding on Saturday, August 31 with a music festival on Dom Square.

Restoration of Utrecht’s Dom Tower is complete

Five years ago, residents in Utrecht saw the Dom Tower slowly covered with the highest scaffolding in the Netherlands, so that the tallest church tower in the country could be restored to its former glory. 40 million euros and 10.000 handmade sandstone bricks later, and the structure can finally be seen in the Dutch city again.

The old bricks from the tower have been auctioned off and given away in lotteries to Utrecht residents. The proceeds from the auctions are going towards a new lighting system for the church tower.

Dom Unveiled celebration in Utrecht on August 31

Now that the Dom Tower is ready to be seen, the city is hosting another celebration in honour of its unveiling. Between 7.45 pm and 9pm on Saturday, August 31, the Utrecht Carillon Friends Foundation (UKV) is holding a musical festival entitled “Dom Unveiled” on Dom Square. There will be musical performances to honour the Dom Tower and the mayor of the city is also expected to make an appearance.

From September 1, visitors to Utrecht will also be able to take tours of the tower again. The climb up the 112,32 metre-high tower is well worth it to get a fantastic view of the city.
