Yup, Amsterdam Noord has done it again! This up-and-coming area in the Dutch capital has managed to hold on to its reputation as a fashionable place to hang out, nabbing a spot in Time Out's ranking of cool neighbourhoods for the second year in a row. 

The coolest neighbourhoods in the world according Time Out

Do you love a bit of exposed brick? Are you not embarrassed to admit your drink of choice is an IPA from a local brewery? Do you firmly believe that a city can never have too many independent cafes? Then Time Out’s ranking of the 51 coolest neighbourhoods in the world is probably for you. 

Once again, the magazine has polled thousands of city-dwellers around the world, combining the results of the Time Out Index survey with expert input from their international network of writers in order to put together a definitive list of the areas with “accessible, cutting-edge culture and nightlife; brilliant and affordable food and drink; lively street life and big community vibes.”

Amsterdam Noord as the epicentre of all things cool

Noord - a region in Amsterdam north of the IJ river - has clung onto its spot in the list, being ranked as the 32nd coolest neighbourhood in the world. The magazine describes Amsterdam Noord as a “different world” to the touristy centre of the Dutch capital, praising the area for its “gritty, post-industrial charm.”

While much of the architecture of this part of the city has remained untouched, the vibe of the area has been transformed; warehouses and old shipping containers are now home to vegan restaurants, pop-up breweries, and cutting-edge museums.

Sadly, no other Dutch cities managed to nab a spot on the list, Amsterdam Noord is far from being the only cool place to hang out in Europe; Berlin’s Neukölln was voted the 15th coolest neighbourhood in the world.

According to the 2022 edition of Time Out’s ranking, the top 10 coolest neighbourhoods in the world are:
