Trumpeter with guts
The star of the evening is 26-year-old Lucienne Renaudin Vary. This trumpeter switches effortlessly between classical and jazz. Known for her playful style, she is praised for her “insight of a 40-year-old.” From age 11, she has won every competition she entered. At 19 years old she was already performing on Dutch live television and during this concert she takes to the stage as soloist, performing Rapsodia Latina by Efraín Oscher with Sinfonia Rotterdam.

An evening of energetic and sparkling music
The evening starts with a piece of special significance to the orchestra. Rossini's Sonata for Strings No. 1 was the first piece the orchestra played in a church in Rotterdam 25 years ago. It resounds again in the Kloosterkerk, de Doelen and the World Museum as a nod to their early years.
Rapsodia Latina is a spectacular piece by Efraín Oscher, in which Renaudin Vary shines on three brass instruments: trumpet, flugelhorn and piccolo trumpet. The music takes you to the birthplaces of Latin American music with Cuban, Brazilian and Spanish influences. You’ll hear bolero, samba and rhythms that may make you unable to sit still - this is classical music at its most exciting.
To conclude the concert in a fabulous finale, the orchestra brings the Symphony No. 4 “Italian” by Felix Mendelssohn, this is one of his most well-known and beloved works. This symphony sparkles with energy and ends the concert with a bang.

Founder and conductor Conrad van Alphen: “I want to make music out of full conviction, with passion and energy. I like to push the boundaries in order to surprise both orchestra members and the audience.”
