Bright, Romantic, and intimate
With a programme for both classical music connoisseurs and new listeners alike, the evening opens with an overture by Mendelssohn. However not, as you may expect, Felix, but a beautiful orchestral work composed by his older sister Fanny.
When opening the last season, Sinfonia Rotterdam and conductor Van Alphen stunned their listeners with the introduction of the sixth symphony of Johann Wilhelm Wilms. Composed early in the 19th century, the "sturm und drang" music of this unknown Dutch composer evokes the style of classical masters Haydn and Mozart.
