Record number of passengers used Eindhoven airport in 2023
A record number of passengers flew to and from Eindhoven airport in 2023, according to a statement made by the airport’s spokesperson to Omroep Brabant. "People just love to travel," the spokesperson said.
Number of passengers at Eindhoven airport higher than before COVID-19 pandemic
The number of passengers using Eindhoven airport in 2023 was recorded as being higher than before the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, around 6,8 million travellers used the airport in Eindhoven, overtaking the 6,3 million passengers who visited the year before.
In 2019, 6,7 million passengers flew into or out of Eindhoven airport, making 2023 the first year to see airport traffic grow since the pandemic impacted air travel for the best part of two years. In the last year, the airport saw 41.496 flights depart or arrive, with the busiest day of the year recorded on September 15, 2023, as almost 25.000 passengers used the airport in one day.
Eindhoven was only 4 flights below its maximum permitted flights
The airport operated close to its legal margins in 2024, being just four flights shy of the ceiling for the airport’s maximum number of permitted flights, as implemented by the government. In 2026 and 2027, this limit will be lowered even more to 40.500 flights, to reduce air and noise pollution.
By comparison, the Netherlands’ most popular airport Schiphol, serving tourists visiting and residents of Amsterdam, had more than 71,7 million passengers arrive and depart from its runways before the pandemic in 2019. By 2022, this number fell to 52,5 million passengers, but the figures for 2023 are expected to exceed this when they become available.
