The Netherlands hosted the 2017 Euros, and the Dutch women's team took home the victory. More recently, at the 2019 Women's World Cup in France, the team reached the finals for the first time where they were beaten by reigning champions USA.
Germany hosted the women’s Euros in both 1989 and 2001, and hosted the Women’s World Cup in 2011. Belgium, however, is relatively new to the sport, with the women’s team competing in their first major tournament in 2017 - the Euros in the Netherlands when they fell out in the group stage.
The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) told NOS: "Women's football in our countries is indeed in different phases of development, but we share the aspiration to give the sport a boost nationally and globally by organising this World Cup."
