Cost of obtaining a Dutch driving licence rises to over 3.000 euros

The Netherlands is known for its high prices, but have you ever wondered how much you'll need to fork over in order to learn how to drive here? Wonder no longer; recent research conducted by the Central Office for Motor Vehicle Testing (CBR) has revealed that the cost of obtaining a driving licence in the Netherlands has risen significantly in the past two years, to an average of 3.060 euros.

How much does it cost to learn to drive in the Netherlands?

In the spring, CBR looked into the average prices of driving lessons and exams across the Netherlands in order to build a clearer picture of the costs associated with obtaining a Dutch driving licence. 3.100 students - who successfully obtained their licence through the CBR - took part in the study.

The research revealed that, between 2021 and now, the cost has risen by over 600 euros, and now sits at an eye-watering 3.060 euros per learner driver. Unsurprisingly, the vast majority of this sum is spent on driving lessons, with each student spending a total of 43 hours in classes.
