Are you interested in a career in international childcare, but find you’re not “qualified” to work with children in the Netherlands? Zein International Childcare may have the answer…

After meeting many well-educated and experienced professionals and finding out that their particular international or Dutch child education or care-related qualifications and / or former work experience did not get formally recognised by the Dutch Childcare Authorities, Zein International Childcare developed the Zein Academy International Talent Programme (ITP).

Since 2017, the ITP offers candidates with a true passion for teaching, developing, and caring for children a recognised, professional solution for obtaining the relevant qualifications to meet the Dutch legislative requirements and start a career in international childcare in the Netherlands.

‘’When I moved to the Netherlands, I knew I wanted to continue working with children but soon discovered that my teaching diplomas in Speech, Drama and Dance were not sufficiently recognised in the Netherlands. I was nervous as to what my future here would hold until I came across an advertisement for the Zein ITP programme. Zein has a strong focus on providing a family feeling and this is clearly felt in the locations. I have gained a lot of confidence from all the support and belief in me from everyone I trained with and am excited to pass this on to the children.’’ Read about Tamsyn’s experience with the ITP here.

About the programme

Successful candidates will follow a personalised in-house training scheme alongside an adapted version of the Dutch EVC (experience-based certification) process which takes about two to six months, depending on current experience / qualifications and the time the candidate can commit to the training process. During training, candidates work within either Day Care (ages 0 to 4) or After School and Holiday Care (ages 4 to 12) groups in The Hague.

Each candidate receives a personal coach and on-the-job training by experienced Zein professionals, as well as access to a range of workshops and lectures covering all aspects of international childcare and the Zein approach to working with international families. Upon completion of the programme and receipt of the qualification, Zein aims to extend an employment offer for a teaching position, allowing you to continue building your career in Zein as a fully qualified international childcare teacher.

Who is eligible?

The scheme is most suitable for candidates who have followed some extended or higher education course related to childhood education or childhood psychology - although candidates with other academic backgrounds or practical experience will also be considered. Applications are welcome from candidates of all ages and backgrounds, but competency in the English language is a must.

An international mix

The ITP is the result of the belief of Zein International Childcare in the value of an internationally diverse workforce. They believe that the best way to serve their diverse community is by ensuring that the people working for them reflect the same level of diversity themselves.

This approach is about more than just the passport a colleague may hold. It is about their ability to empathise with the experiences and challenges faced by internationally mobile children and families. It is about their ability to use their own cultural experiences and background to add a richness to the care they provide.
