PhD positions in Software Engineering (2.0 FTE)
Updated: 09 Jan 2025
The 2 full-time PhD positions will be part of an ITEA project entitled MAST - Managing Sustainability Tradeoffs. The group at the University of Groningen has teamed up with a European consortium to strengthen the way in which sustainability can be brought to products and services in a technically viable way. The aim of the project is to deal with the complex trade-offs between two aspects of sustainability: technical sustainability (esp. technical debt) and environmental sustainability (esp. carbon footprint).
The group will build on existing research in order to generate new innovations and technology (tools to measure and report sustainability, as well as optimize it) to the benefit of industry partners, as well as make some of them available as Open Source components for the wider high-tech and software industry.
The objective of the temporary position is the production of a number of research articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conference proceedings, which together will form the basis of a thesis leading to a PhD degree (Dr) at the University of Groningen.
Founded in 1614, the University of Groningen enjoys an international reputation as a dynamic and innovative institution of higher education offering high-quality teaching and research. Flexible study programmes and academic career opportunities in a wide variety of disciplines encourage the 34,000 students and researchers alike to develop their own individual talents. As one of the best research universities in Europe, the University of Groningen has joined forces with other top universities and networks worldwide to become a truly global centre of knowledge.
Within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, two 4-years PhD positions is available at the Bernoulli Institute for Mathematics, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence with the topic of Software Engineering. The candidates would become a member of the Software Engineering group and will work under the supervision of Prof. Paris Avgeriou and Prof. Vasilios Andrikopoulos.
