Your job
The Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) has a vacancy for an Assistant Professor in Accounting, with expertise in financial accounting and/or management accounting. Of the position, 60% of the time is reserved for teaching activities and 40% is dedicated to research. You will be part of U.S.E.’s Finance section.
You will take care of good teaching in accordance with our academic and departmental guidelines. You teach in (some of) the areas of financial accounting, management accounting, and financial management (corporate finance), in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes of U.S.E. Furthermore, you supervise Bachelor's and Master's theses and other research projects undertaken by students. As a teacher, you inspire the next generation of financial management professionals.
In terms of research, you play a crucial role in advancing the department's research agenda, contributing to impactful scholarly publications in high-quality academic journals. You push the boundaries of financial management knowledge, and communicate research findings to relevant stakeholder groups in society.
The U.S.E. research institute encourages collaboration with researchers from other disciplines, and research activities that address societally relevant issues (specifically sustainability). Requirements:
- A PhD degree in accounting (or a closely related field) from an accredited institution;
- a strong track record (or clear potential for, in case of younger candidates) of impactful research (as demonstrated among others by publications and citations in international recognised journals);
- preferably strong quantitative skills in econometrics, social sciences and/or data science;
- demonstrated excellence in teaching, with (some) teaching experience in an international academic environment and proven ability to inspire students from undergraduate to graduate levels (as demonstrated from positive assessments by students);
- effective communication, interpersonal and coordination skills;
- a collaborative and collegial approach to working with colleagues and students;
- strong command of spoken and written English;
- preferred: ability to teach in Dutch.
Given the developments in our section, candidates with knowledge (or a willingness to develop this knowledge) in the area of sustainable accounting are preferred.
Salary Benefits:
- A position for 18 months, with the prospect of a permanent employment contract after positive evaluation;
- a working week of 38 hours and a gross monthly salary between €4,537 and €6,209 (salary scale 11 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
- 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
- a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.
