At Maastricht University (UM), sustainability is at the core of our strategy. Through the UM Sustainability Roadmap 2030, we have set ambitious goals in areas such as climate, circularity, and fostering a thriving, inclusive community. This roadmap translates our core activities education, research, and operations into concrete actions that contribute to a more sustainable world.
To realize this vision, we are seeking a sustainability expert to support our staff and faculties in evaluating the sustainability impact of actions and policy proposals. Together, we aim to integrate sustainability into decision-making processes at every level within UM.
What will you do?
As Sustainability Advisor, you will be responsible for:
- Assessing the sustainability impact of policy proposals from staff departments and faculties, focusing on themes such as CO2 reduction, circular economy, biodiversity, and sustainable mobility.
- Developing well-founded recommendations and policy proposals to encourage sustainable choices.
- Supporting decision-making by providing substantive knowledge and strategic insights to relevant stakeholders.
- Mobilizing scientific knowledge within UM, in collaboration with the Academic Lead, to provide in-depth expertise on specific sustainability themes.
- Strengthening connections between faculties, scientific communities, and management to enhance collaboration and impact.
Requirements
Who are we looking for?
- You hold a relevant academic degree and have expertise in sustainability topics such as CO2 reduction, circular economy, biodiversity, and sustainable mobility.
- You have proven experience in policy advising and in translating complex sustainability issues into practical and strategic solutions.
- You are a connector who knows how to effectively apply scientific insights to policy development and decision-making.
- You possess excellent communication skills and can provide compelling advice in English and preferably in Dutch.
- You have experience working with diverse stakeholders within a complex organization.
What we offer
As a Sustainability Advisor at The School of Business and Economics you will be employed by the most international university of the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
- Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 11 according to the UFO profile Health, Safety and Environment Specialist, function level 2 with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €4492 to €6148 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus are applicable.
- An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 0.8-1.0 FTE. If proven suitable, the employment contract will be converted into an indefinite contract.
- At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
