Senior Accountant | Dutch and English

Our client is a global player in the food industry that has approx. 150 offices across the world. On behalf of them, we are looking for a Senior Accountant to look after the European market. You will report to the Financial Controller Atlantic who is based in Mexico, overseeing financial operations and compliance for Europe.

Responsibilities in a nutshell:

• Manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, tax compliance, month-end closing, and FX exposure monitoring
• Ensure compliance with European financial regulations, collaborating with partners such as BIG4
• Oversee asset management, capex creation, revenue recognition, and budget activities for Europe
• Collaborate with the global accounting services team to identify and implement process improvements

Accounting:

• Review financial statements and balance sheets for European entities to ensure accuracy and timely completion
• Oversee payroll processes and manage tax compliance for European operations
• Conduct analytical reviews of key variances and maintain supporting documentation
• Assist with GAAP interpretations, budget preparation, and risk identification
• Coordinate with stakeholders to meet obligations

Statutory Reporting:

• Ensure timely and accurate annual financial statement filings, working with auditors and stakeholders
• Address and escalate unresolved issues promptly

Audit Assistance:

• Support external and internal audits, maintain financial controls, and respond to auditor queries

Other Responsibilities:

• Participate in training, foster a positive team environment, and serve as the main contact for accounting and tax matters

Operational Duties:

• Record time accurately, handle client contracts, apply control frameworks, communicate effectively, and mentor staff
• Promote continuous improvement and adaptability

Who we are looking for:

• Fluency in Dutch and English
• Degree in Accounting or Finance
• 3+ years of experience as a Accountant OR external auditor from BIG4
• Strong knowledge of Dutch GAAP & Tax Compliance
• Visible leadership skills - This role doesn't have any direct reports but we are looking for candidates who can mentor a junior colleague in the Amsterdam office.
• Proficiency in MS Office and SAP
