Postdoc in cryo-EM single particle analysis of protein-protein interactions

Research / Academic
Eindhoven

Are you passionate about innovative structure-based drug discovery? Are you motivated to develop novel concepts for the identification and optimization of Molecular Glues for the stabilization of protein-protein interactions? Do you have experience with cryo-EM structural biology? We are searching for a post-doctoral colleague, educated in structural biology and related fields to drive innovative research on the chemical biology of PPIs and related drug discovery.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering of Eindhoven University of Technology performs research and education at the interface between chemistry, biology and engineering. In the area of chemical biology, internationally acclaimed research is performed in our shared state-of-the-art laboratories, including molecular biology, advanced biophysics, chemical biology and structural biology laboratories with an extensive collection of molecular characterization tools. Specifically for the function direct access to protein production, X-ray crystallography and scattering facilities, as well as cryo-EM facilities (Glacios Cryo-TEM with Falcon 4, Vitrobot Mark IV) and further advanced facilities (e.g. Krios Cryo-TEM) at close distance.

The postdoctoral position available will focus on the study of protein-protein interactions of the 14-3-3 hub protein. While 14-3-3 PPIs have shown to be highly amenable to X-ray crystallography, when bound to short peptide fragments of client proteins, the structural information of full-length PPIs harbors a wealth of untapped knowledge on how 14-3-3 interacts with its vast interactome and can form the basis for innovative drug discovery starting points. During the last decade we have gained enormous insights into the biochemistry and cellular biology of 14-3-3 PPIs and have opened the possibility for structure-based drug discovery to identify 14-3-3 focused Molecular Glues. We are currently working on several highly exciting 14-3-3 PPIs in the oncology and metabolic therapeutic areas and aim to position SPA cryo-EM as an important driver of innovative medicine development.
