At CropXR, our multidisciplinary team of data engineers, architects, and scientists is dedicated to supporting plant researchers in collecting, storing, processing, and analyzing data. Our data engineers provide expert guidance, assist in technological choices, utilize data standards, and perform data processing for consortium partners.
We are expanding our team and seeking a talented Data Engineer with experience in collecting datasets, programming and scripting, big data analysis, data management tools, and bioinformatics.
As a Data Engineer, you will:

  • Make data accessible and usable through processing, organization, analysis, and visualization.
  • Advise on data management and ensure data and metadata are FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
  • Link and interoperate various data sources, including APIs.
  • Establish structured and standardized data collections on the evolving CropXR infrastructure.
  • Engage in research-driven projects and initiate independent data initiatives.
  • Perform data integration, validation, and cleansing.

Requirements:

The person we are looking for:

  • Has a completed university degree, preferably in computer science, data science, IT, or bioinformatics.
  • Has experience with programming and scripting, e.g., Java, Python, SQL, and/or R.
  • Has experience with data management tools, e.g., relational databases, NoSQL databases.
  • Has experience with the use of metadata, (meta)data standards, and documenting them.
  • Has excellent analytical, communicative, and social skills.
  • Is proficient in English.
  • Has experience working in multidisciplinary teams and an affinity for working in a research environment.

Salary Benefits:

  • You will be offered a contract for a duration of 5 years, in line with the length of the project you will be working on.
  • A salary based on scale] 10of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of € 3.226,-and a maximum of € 5.090,- gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
