The University of Amsterdam invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor OR Lecturer positions in International Business. The successful candidate will work as Assistant Professor or Lecturer at the Strategy and International Business section of the Amsterdam Business School (ABS) within the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
ABS is a leading, research-driven business school at an internationally recognized university. We are looking for candidates with a clear research and/or teaching focus on international business. For Assistant Professor applicants, we have a preference for candidates whose research agenda links up with the ongoing research at our section in the context of innovation and global mobility, corporate social responsibility and ethics, sustainable development, corporate governance, emerging economies, diversity and culture, and digital transformation in global value chains. We expect candidates to clearly indicate whether they are applying for an Assistant Professor or Lecturer position. Only one of these positions will be filled.

For the Tenure-track Assistant Professor position we a looking for outstanding research-oriented experts with already a track of top publications in international journals. During the six-year tenure track position the successful candidate will perform both teaching and research tasks. Your main tasks will be to initiate and perform academic research culminating in publications in leading journals; teach and supervise theses in our BSc and MSc in Business Administration, the MBA, and our Executive Programme Management Studies.
For the Lecturer position we are looking for individuals with potential for exceptional teaching performance and broad interests in international business. The main tasks of the candidates are teaching, thesis supervision, and teaching coordination in the (under)graduate and master education programs. The teaching load is reasonable and can be concentrated both in terms of time and preparation.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Conducting academic research within the field of international business (for Assistant Professor position, possibly to a limited extent also for Lecturer position);
- teaching international business courses at the bachelor, master, and/or executive levels;
- supervising bachelor and/or master thesis projects in international business and related areas;
- possibly supporting the section and programme in administrative or service tasks (to be agreed upon).
You will be working as either Assistant Professor or Lecturer for 38 hours/week

The section is committed to providing high-quality education at all levels, from undergraduate (BSc) to PhD level and Executive education. The Strategy & International Business section is home to more than 30 distinguished faculty members and international business experts, from junior (tenure track) to leading senior researchers, as well as PhD candidates. The section is very collegial and diverse, its scholars come from 23 different nationalities, with wide range of backgrounds. Faculty members regularly publish in top internationally recognized journals, like the Academy of Management Annals, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Organization Science, Organization Studies, Research Policy, and Strategic Management Journal.
This is what we ask of you
For the Tenure-track Assistant Professor position we look for candidates who hold a Ph.D. (completed or near completion) in Business Administration, Management and similar, have already (forthcoming) publications in top internationally recognized journals, and take their teaching seriously, with proven teaching ability at the undergraduate and graduate level. Dutch language skills at the level required for teaching in Dutch are also expected. However, in certain instances, we may also consider applicants who are fluent in English but not (yet) in Dutch.
For the Lecturer position we will prioritize candidates that hold a Ph.D. (completed or near completion, in Business Administration, Management, and similar) with more than two years of teaching in International Business topics at Dutch universities or abroad. However, we will also consider candidates with more than five years of teaching experience in higher education programs in related areas of business studies.
What else we offer
The Tenure-track Assistant Professor will be offered a six-year tenure track position as Assistant professor. Upon meeting the criteria for tenure, we will offer a permanent contract as Associate Professor. The gross monthly salary during the first three years will be, depending on experience, between €4,537 and €6,209 (salary scale 11) based on 38 hours per week (+ 16.3% holiday and end-year payments). After a positive evaluation the maximum salary becomes €7,056 (salary scale 12). This is based on 38 hours per week and in accordance with the salary scales. A temporary reduction in income tax (equal to 30% of taxable salary) may apply to non-Dutch candidates. The Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) for Dutch Universities is applicable.
The Lecturer will be offered initially an appointment for one year with extension. Salary will be in accordance with Dutch academic salary scales. For a lecturer this is between € 3,378 to € 6,209 per month (+16.3% holiday and end-year payments) dependent on experience and track record of the candidate. A temporary reduction in income tax (equal to 30% of taxable salary) may apply to non-Dutch candidates. The Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) for Dutch Universities is applicable. Additionally, some research time may be offered each year to the candidate.
The starting date is planned to be 1 September 2025. An earlier starting date is an option.
