Dutch magazine Quote has released its 2013 edition of the richest 500 people in the Netherlands, which shows that their total wealth has gone up by 7 billion euros since last year. That is a 6,14 per cent increase, to a total of 113,1 billion euros.

There are now 20 billionaires on the list, with last place held by DJ Tiësto with 54 million euros. Last year, the 500th spot was acquired for 50 million euros.

According to Quote, it is thanks to good business and a favorable share price that the combined wealth of the Netherlands’ richest people has gone up again in 2013.

No. 1: Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken

The Heineken heiress, who holds the controlling interest in third largest brewer in the world, saw her fortune rise by as much as 33 per cent to 7,2 billion, thanks to an improved share price.

De Carvalho-Heineken, who lives in London with her English husband, was also ranked 10th wealthiest person in the UK in the 2013 Sunday Times Rich List.

No. 2: Frits Goldschmeding

The founder of Randstad employment agency comes next in the Dutch list. Goldschmeding saw his fortune nearly double this year with a 42 per cent increase. He is now worth 3 billion.

His increased wealth is also down to improved share prices: Randstad shares rose 50 per cent, meaning as a major shareholder Goldschmeding received 70 million euros in dividends alone.

No. 3: Dik Wessels

An investor in real estate, fibre optics and oil trading, as well as construction company Volker Wessels, he has an estimated worth of 2,1 billion euros.

No. 4: John de Mol

The Netherlands’ wealthiest media magnate, whose production companies are behind huge international hits like Big Brother and The Voice, has a fortune of 2 billion euros.

No. 5: Wijnand Pol

Known for importing cars, primarily Volkswagen and Porsche, his wealth is also estimated at 2 billion.

Wealthiest Dutch families

The 50 richest families in the Netherlands have in general increased their wealth and are now collectively worth 45,2 billion euros.

At the top of the tree is the Brenninkmeijer family, which owns C&A clothing stores, with 23 billion euros. Second is the Van der Vorms, known for HAL Investments (an investment subsidiary of HAL Holding, based in Curaçao), with 5,1 billion.

Third is the family De Rijcke, which is worth 1.9 billion thanks to its retail chains Kruidvat and Groenewoudt.
